The Ontario Wheat Producers’ Marketing Board has been working hard to develop markets for Ontario wheat both domestically and internationally.
Internationally, the board has been actively engaging importers of wheat through trade missions and we are in the process of developing a 5 year export development plan. This is important as wheat acres in Ontario continue to rise.
Ontario is currently the only wheat growing region in North America with increasing wheat acreage; other wheat growing regions are either experiencing declining acreage or stagnation. This is a fact that Ontario producers can pride themselves in: we like growing wheat and we’re good at it!
But domestic demand for wheat is not experiencing the same growth as production. The Ontario Wheat Board sees this as an excellent opportunity to explore export opportunities for Ontario Wheat.
Through our efforts, along with others in the wheat industry, we hope to increase awareness and confidence in Ontario wheat among international importers.
